What is Stellar?
Stellar is built for issuing and transferring assets through a shared ledger and decentralized exchange. XLM pays transaction fees, satisfies minimum account reserves and can act as a bridge asset, while validators reach agreement through individually selected quorum slices rather than mining or stake-weighted block rewards.
The network can settle representations of currencies, but those tokens are only as redeemable as their anchors or issuers. Stellar’s consensus can confirm a token transfer without guaranteeing that an offchain institution will honor the asset it issued.
XLM is not mined and Stellar does not currently pay inflation rewards; the outstanding supply was created earlier and later reduced by a foundation burn.
