What is Litecoin?
Litecoin adapts Bitcoin’s unspent-output design with roughly 2.5-minute target blocks, Scrypt mining and an 84-million maximum supply. Miners can merge-mine Litecoin and Dogecoin, allowing the same work to contribute to the security of both networks.
Faster target blocks improve the speed of an initial confirmation but do not make a single confirmation final or eliminate chain-reorganization risk. Litecoin also supports features such as the Lightning Network and opt-in MimbleWimble Extension Blocks, whose privacy properties do not apply automatically to ordinary transfers.
Litecoin is not simply Bitcoin transactions running four times faster; its block schedule, mining ecosystem and feature set are separate.
