What is Polkadot?
Polkadot provides shared security and interoperable blockspace for specialized chains. DOT is staked by validators and nominators, used in governance and can purchase or help allocate coretime—the network resource applications use to access relay-chain security.
Since November 2024, gross annual issuance follows a fixed 120-million-DOT model rather than a percentage inflation rate, with issuance divided between staking and treasury under governance rules. Net supply growth can be lower when fees or unused treasury funds are burned.
The word “new” in some market-data slugs distinguishes the current redenominated asset record; it does not mean holders need to buy a separate new Polkadot token.
