What is Hedera?
Hedera uses hashgraph consensus, in which nodes gossip events and mathematically infer votes to order transactions without proof-of-work mining. HBAR pays network fees and is staked to consensus nodes; users can proxy-stake without surrendering custody.
The Hedera Governing Council sets policy and operates the current permissioned mainnet node set, which is a deliberate governance trade-off rather than the open validator admission used by many public chains. Treasury release schedules and the path toward broader node participation matter alongside transaction counts.
