What is BNB?
BNB is used to pay gas, participate in staking and support applications on BNB Smart Chain. The chain is EVM-compatible, which allows Ethereum-style contracts and tooling to be used in its ecosystem.
Its Proof of Staked Authority design prioritizes short block times and lower fees through a limited active validator set. That creates a different decentralization and operational trade-off from networks with larger validator participation.
BNB is more than an exchange discount token; it is the native execution and security asset of BNB Chain.
